Tennessee Veterans Burial Grants
Written by admin
Jan 06, 2009 at 03:13 PM

The American Legion, Department of Tennessee is currently assisting eligible families and responsible agencies in defraying the burial cost of indigent Tennessee veterans.  This program is designed to ensure that honorably discharged veterans (as annotated on DD Form 214) who are considered to be "indigent" are treated honorably upon their deaths and do not end up in a paupers grave.

Information required includes a signed letter from the funeral home director indicating that the veteran is indigent, a copy of the death certificate, a copy of the funeral bill showing both balance owed as well as all credits, and a copy of the service members DD 214.  All of this information must be provided within 90 days of the date of death.

Complete information can be obtained from the American Legion, Department of Tennessee, 215 8th Avenue North, Nashville, Tn  37203.  Their telephone number is (615) 254-0568.
